Library Receives Grant from Black Hawk County Gaming

Putting in the new front window

Hawkins Memorial Library has received a $15.343.00 grant from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association.

Hawkins Memorial Library is a non-profit organization serving La Porte city and the rural areas surrounding the city with library services.  Along with providing materials that can be checked out and used at home we offer several programs at our library.  We also offer public Internet access on two computers in the library for all patrons to use.

The Black Hawk County Gaming Association grant will be used to update the library.  We will be adding new powered handicapped accessible doors, new energy efficient windows, redoing the entry way and adding a free standing book drop outside the library.

This will benefit our patrons that have difficulty with the heavy doors or who have strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers that can benefit from the new doors.  The new windows will help us save on our fueling costs.  By redoing the entry way we will be making the library a more pleasant and safe place to visit and will hopefully increase our library usage. The free standing book drop will help insure safety to the library building and the materials that are currently there.
